History to Acacia Ridge

In 1918, Robert and Margaret McLaughlin decided they needed a larger house, having outgrown their original Humpy after 15 years. Their new home was completed by Christmas 1919. Robert had immigrated from Ireland in 1870, celebrating his 16th birthday during the voyage, while Margaret had moved from Scotland in 1880. Robert worked at the Pioneer Sugar Mill, advancing from a bread baker to the estate overseer. He taught Margaret how to bake bread. Coming from a dairy family back in Scotland, Margaret established her own dairy on a nearby property (Wallace's), where she and the children milked cows, made butter, and delivered their products to the Pioneer Mill and nearby properties in Brandon. Despite working full-time at the Mill, Robert also cultivated sugar cane on their property, Acacia Ridge, which spanned over 1000 acres.

After four generations, it's time for this home to welcome new custodians.
